About TimberTech

TimberTech Review

Are you planning on building a deck? Already drawn up your plans? Then it’s time to get real about the type of material you’ll use. As you know, you have options. Real wood, PVC, and composite are some of the most popular.

Real wood sounds nice, right? While going with a completely natural material may be appealing, using real wood may contribute to deforestation. Plus, it’s a pain to maintain.

On the other hand, PVC and composite are easier to maintain but traditionally, they come with their own issues. PVC is a form of plastic and composite uses a mixture of wood and synthetic materials.

Where’s the silver lining? In TimberTech’s sustainable and easy-to-maintain USA-made products. Using 60-85% recycled materials in their decking, with approximately 60% recycled content for Advanced PVC decking and 85% for Composite, the result is a super durable, easy-to-maintain, and long-lasting deck.

TimberTech has received multiple awards over its 25 years in business, including the 2022 ESG Gamechanger Award and the 2023 Good Housekeeping Innovation Award.

To learn more about what all of this means for your home, clients, or the world, I encourage you to check out the details in the coming sections of this TimberTech Decking review.

TimberTech Review

TimberTech is an award-winning company that’s become a trusted name among homeowners, architects, and contractors for the last 25 years. Producing more sustainable products with a real-wood look, their Advanced PVC and Composite deck boards and railings are designed to look like popular wood species in a variety of colors and finishes.

TimberTech 3D Deck Designer

One of the many ways TimberTech helps you design your dream deck is their 3D Deck Designer. This virtual feature is available on their website and allows you to experiment with deck size, color combinations, and multi-width designs.

When you find a design that fits your needs and wants, save ideas and create a materials shopping list to share with your builder.

TimberTech Decking Review: Best Sellers

The 3D Deck Designer is a great place to start if you’re in the beginning stages of planning your deck, but you can also learn more about the brand’s best-selling options ahead in this TimberTech review.

Advanced PVC Decking

TimberTech Advanced PVC Decking has the closest look to natural wood. However, with it, you won’t need to sand and stain your deck annually and worry about wood rot, hard-to-remove mildew stains, and splinters. With Multiwidth Decking available for certain collections, getting your dream deck has never been so easy—or sustainable.

TimberTech Advanced PVC Decking is cleaned with an occasional scrub and rinse and is resistant to fading and staining. Your family and pets will also enjoy a cooler feel underneath their feet as the material is 30% cooler to the touch and provides 40% better traction than competing products.

TimberTech’s Advanced PVC Decking is also a good choice for fire zones, because feature Class A Flame Spread Rating, WUI Compliance, or both, and is made approximately from 60% recycled material. It comes in a variety of collections including:

  • Vintage Collection – exotic hardwoods
  • Landmark Collection – crosscut hardwoods
  • Harvest Collection – refined cathedral grain
  • Porch Collection – hardwoods and stained woods
  • Multiwidth Decking – customize your design

Within each of these collections, you’ll have a variety of color, wood, or stain options to choose from.

Composite Decking

TimberTech’s Composite Decking delivers a realistic wood look and a protective polymer cap that keeps out moisture. This cap also helps retain rich color, so you won’t need to worry about staining or fading.

This type of deck is durable and made from recycled and high-performance polymers. It won’t splinter, warp, peel, or crack. What’s more, it’s also incredibly low maintenance. All you need to do to clean it is scrub and rinse occasionally.

TimberTech’s Composite Decking is made with up to 85% recycled materials such as plastic bags and other plastics headed for the landfill. You’ll have your choice of the following collections to find the perfect look for your home:

  • Legacy Collection – hand-scraped finish
  • Reserve Collection – reclaimed wood look
  • Terrain+ Collection – subtle wood grain
  • Terrain Collection – rugged cathedral grain
  • Prime+ Collection – timeless wood grain
  • Prime Collection – painted wood

Within each of these collections, you’ll have a handful of color, wood, or stain options to choose from.

Composite Railing

What’s a deck without railing? When using the 3D Deck Designer to build your custom deck, you’ll see the difference railing can make.

TimberTech Railing comes in a variety of styles and designs and is made in your choice of either composite, PVC, or metal. Made from high-quality materials known for their durability and minimized maintenance needs, choosing a railing from TimberTech means welcoming a more sustainable, longer-lasting, and easier-to-maintain outdoor space.

There are so many different styles and designs to choose from to match your deck, with dozen of customization options. Plus, TimberTech’s railings are made with up to 50% recycled materials meaning they are a more eco-friendly choice than others on the market.

TimberTech Decking Review: Sustainability

TimberTech Review

How successful can a product be these days if it can’t be both good-looking and good for the planet? One of my favorite things about TimberTech is its sustainability.

Together with The AZEK Company, their parent company, TimberTech transforms hundreds of millions of pounds of waste headed for the landfill into beautiful and long-lasting products. Some stats I found impressive include:

  • Their decking is engineered with approximately 60-85% recycled content
  • Since 2001, they’ve prevented the cutting down of 3 million trees, by utilizing wood fibers and recycled materials for the construction of their products
  • 500 million pounds of waste have been diverted from landfills in 2021
  • 99% of TimberTech’s internal scrap has been used throughout the period
  • 96% of water has been recycled in their closed-loop production facilities
  • The average 15’x15’ TimberTech Advanced PVC deck diverts 40 trash bags of construction waste from the landfill

These are some seriously awesome stats, and I really appreciate that TimberTech has a closed-loop water production cycle and uses virtually all of its scrap. Really cool.

Who is TimberTech For?

TimberTech Review

TimberTech decking is for homeowners and contractors looking to use more sustainable products to build a deck and railings. The brand offers a selection of deck boards in PVC and composite materials that have lower maintenance requirements than real wood. I think TimberTech will be a great choice for homeowners who value:

  • Sustainable products
  • Less frequent maintenance
  • Real-wood look without staining or fading

TimberTech Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

TimberTech Review

I’ll preface this part of my TimberTech review by saying how much customers truly love this brand and its products. The feedback is highly positive with many noting that their deck looks like real wood and is super easy to maintain.

The first TimberTech review we’ll check out comes from the brand’s website. It reads, “It looks exactly like real wood and I don’t have to maintain it. Amazing!

See what I mean? There are plenty more where that came from, but I checked out Home Depot to see what others thought.

This product with the lighter color does seem to stay cooler during these summer months than some of the darker composite options out there. Overall super happy. I’ll have to see over time if doesn’t scratch easy and prevents mold/mildew like I’ve read in the description, but so far so good! Also looking forward to hopefully very little maintenance for the next 25 years!

Many have said that their TimberTech decks are cooler to walk on than regular wood and that there is minimal shrinkage. This is echoed in the next TimberTech review from Reddit.

I helped install a timber tech deck over 20 years ago at my dad’s house. To my knowledge, he never had a warranty issue. The shrinkage of the boards is minimal if any even after so many years. It has held up great even to heavy dog traffic and he runs his snowblower on it in the winter (PA).

Others mention that they haven’t seen fading from the sun and that they’re happy their children’s feet will stay splinter-free in the summer. Overall, customers really look forward to the lower maintenance requirements for TimberTech boards and all of the perks that come from composite or PVC decking.

Is TimberTech Worth It?

TimberTech Review

Looking for more sustainable decking that also lasts longer? How about one with a 50-year fade/stain warranty and a lifetime limited product in Advanced PVC? That’s TimberTech, a high-quality, award-winning sustainable company that offers beautiful deck boards that look like real wood.

I don’t know about you, but any product that looks great, is eco-friendly, and requires minimal maintenance is a yes in my book. I love the variety of options offered by TimberTech as well, along with their free tools like the Deck Designer and samples.

TimberTech makes getting a new deck incredibly easy, fun, and truly sustainable.
