About Onewheel

Onewheel Review

Every generation has its own ‘it’ vehicle. From the roller skating craze of the 1950s to our childhood bicycles, the alternatives to driving were a lot more exciting than paying for a car.

If you’re wondering what’s trending in the streets today, I think it’s safe to say that electric skateboards are all the rage.

Onewheel, a brand favored by outdoor enthusiasts, manufactures electric skateboards in a variety of different models. Meant for tough terrain and easy city streets, the brand has gained a significant amount of popularity online.

Onewheel boasts over 410k followers on its Instagram page, coupled with the fact that they’re featured in a few media outlets, including Gizmodo and CNET

In need of the perfect self-gift? If so, perhaps it’s worth adding this brand to this year’s Christmas list. Keep reading, as in this Onewheel review, I’ll take an in-depth look at the company, its products, customer ratings, promotions, and more to help you decide if they’re worth checking out.

Onewheel Review

Onewheel’s debut began with a departure. Quitting his day job, founder Kyle Doerksen decided to make his passion for skateboard engineering his full-time career in 2013.

He was committed to providing outdoor enthusiasts a fun alternative compared to traditional cycling and scooting. This inevitably led to the launch of several Onewheel products, including the GT, Pint X, and the Pint.

Before I kickstart this Onewheel review, let’s go over some initial highlights.

Onewheel Review

When you think of an all-terrain vehicle, a car usually comes to mind. That said, we live in the year 2022—non-automobile alternatives have transformed to a point where they’re more impressive than a 4-wheeler.

If you don’t believe me, it’s time to check out Onewheel’s selection. From GT, Pint, and Pint X, the brand’s collection of electric skateboards will second-guess anybody trying to cop an expensive car.

Moving forward, I’ll highlight some of their bestsellers next in this Onewheel review.

Onewheel GT Review

Onewheel GT

Play that rustic-sounding guitar riff that overdramatic car commercials play. The Onewheel GT is no luxury sedan, but it definitely deserves a show-off.

Designed to travel 52 km on a single charge and powered with a mighty voltage, this electric skateboard is made to impress. It features concave footpads, a custom tire profile, and grip tape for added security.

Engineered to go faster and farther compared to Onewheel’s other prototypes, this bad-boy can drive through several terrains. The GT model currently retails for $2,200

Onewheel Pint Review

Cool kids own the best backpacks, the trendiest of clothes, and the shiniest of bikes. Obviously, popularity in school means absolutely nothing, but if you really want to be the envy of your class, it’s time to ditch the two-wheeler.

The Pint model is considered a great alternative, as it’s decked out with a whisper-quiet hypercore motor and a powerful braking system. It also comes with a nifty handle for carrying.

Meant to go on all terrains, the Pint electric skateboard sells for $1,050. It’s currently available in slate and sand.

Onewheel Pint X Review

Forget Uber. The Pint X is considered a great substitution for short distances. While all Onewheel models are designed for all terrains, the brand’s prototypes (especially this one) are highly recommended for city streets. Made to last up to 29 km on a single charge, you can easily reach your local grocery store, library, or place of work in minutes.

Ideally paired with a helmet and skater-boy clothes, the Pint X model costs $1,400 at checkout.

Onewheel GT Carbon Fiber Fender Review

Onewheel GT Carbon Fiber Fender

Considering that Onewheel skateboard models retail past the $1,000 mark, it’s best to deck your electric shredder with some protective gear. The GT Carbon Fiber Fender is definitely something worth investing in, as it’s made to prevent debris build-up. This curved shell is constructed out of carbon fiber, which can withstand 2,500 lbs of force.

Offered in black, the GT Carbon Fiber Fender can be all yours for $175

Onewheel GT Hypercharger Review

Onewheel GT Hypercharger

One of the main benefits of investing in a One wheel board is its eco-conscious design. Battery and gas-free, it’s regarded as a wonderful alternative if you’re committed to leading a more sustainable lifestyle.

To help ensure your one-wheeler stays powerful and all-mighty, the GT Hypercharger should be added to your shopping cart. It charges half the time than it takes the traditional GT Home Charger.

I highly recommend buying a pouch to store your $210 GT Hypercharger, as there’s nothing more annoying than tangled wires.

Onewheel GT Flat Kick Footpads Review

Onewheel GT Flat Kick Footpads

There’s a reason why traditional skateboards feature a scratchy surface on top. It’s there to prevent any slipping and sliding. Onewheel prototypes utilize the same design, which is why it’s important to add the GT Flat Kick Footpads to your order. Made to ensure security and stability, this safety add-on can help mitigate any accidents in the long run.

Provided in a set of two, the GT Flat Kick Footpads retail for $150 altogether.

How Does Onewheel Work?

Onewheel Review

There are three ways to purchase a Onewheel skateboard. You can either choose to pay the price in full or opt for an installment plan. The brand offers Klarna for those who can’t afford to cover the full amount, which applies to all of their available models.

If you’re looking to add some accessories to your order, Onewheel offers discounts for select package deals. For instance, customers can buy the Essentials Bundle for only $1,100. This includes the Pint skateboard, the fender, and the Pint charger plug.

It’s also worth mentioning that riders can design their own skateboards using the brand’s customization program.

Who Is Onewheel For?

Onewheel Review

If you require a fun and inventive way to traverse through the city streets, perhaps it’s time to give Onewheel skateboards a gander.

While expensive, it’s considered a wonderful alternative if you’re looking to cut the habit of Ubering or driving everywhere.

Onewheel Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Onewheel Review

Onewheel skateboards are a hoot and a half. The online reviews speak for themselves, as I found a fairly positive response toward the brand’s products.

I’ll kick this portion off of this Onewheel review by sharing some of the ratings for their all-time bestsellers.

Fun to traverse and bump-free in ridership, outdoor enthusiasts and city locals seem to love their Onewheel electric skateboards. Others stated that it was easy to control. Some customers were motivated to go out more, given how entertaining the ride was.

“I honestly can’t stop riding this thing I love it and it motivates me to get out more explore new places and just have fun the point x is the best bang for buck in my opinion,” one customer wrote for the Onewheel GT

To add to this Onewheel review, I decided to include some independent blogs and magazines. Websites such as Wired and Distilunion offered a favorable critique of the brand’s models, as both authors concluded that their electric skateboards were well worth the investment.

“Onewheel’s most affordable price tag. New safety features, like long overdue Simplestop tech. Integrated carry handle. A few pounds lighter. Fun app with digital shaping software for a customizable ride,” via a statement made by Wired.

If you have your sights on this well-designed electric skateboard for Christmas, I can confidently say in this Onewheel review that they’re definitely worth checking out. That said, I did uncover some negative feedback that’s worth mentioning.

Is Onewheel Legit?

Onewheel Review

The Amazon page for the Onewheel Off-Road Skateboard showcases a so-so score of 2.4/5 stars based on 46 testimonials. A few customers experienced nosedive accidents while riding their electric skateboards.

They stated that the brand could’ve implemented more safety features to prevent slips and slides.

Aside from this, I didn’t find any other red flags worth including in this Onewheel review.

Is Onewheel Worth It?

Onewheel Review

Opting for Uber or driving yourself to a short destination is a guilt trip. Small distances should call for gas-free alternatives, right?

That said, convenience is usually the sole excuse. If you’re looking to cut both habits in a fun way, Onewheel skateboards can serve as an excellent substitute. Sure, they’re expensive, but given the vast amount of positive online reviews, they’ll definitely motivate you to get out more.
