Overview of Starface

Starface Review

Starface was founded in fall 2019 by Julie Schott and Brian Bordainick. Schott was tired of seeing the negativity surrounding acne in the beauty industry and created a more uplifting brand alongside Bordanick.

Former beauty editor Schott also struggled with acne. She felt it diminished her professional credibility if she didn’t know how to care for her skin. She experimented with using decorative stickers to cover up her blemishes, and the idea was born.

Schott wanted to invent something for pimple-prone people that combined education with effective ingredients. She also wanted to create something inclusive, accessible, and fun. Now, normalizing acne is the company’s primary goal.

Bordainick and Schott launched the bright patches to create fun and “selfie-ready” pimple miracles. The star shape became the brand’s signature patch due to the arms. In other words, it’ll grip every curve of someone’s face. Now, they’ve become an accessory to loyal users, and the New York-based company has since dropped cute limited-edition patches and a skincare line.

Before jumping into this Starface review, let’s discuss some of the brand’s highlights.

Starface Skincare Review

Starface’s skincare line aims to hydrate, cleanse, and balance out your skin to get that coveted glow. Coined the “happiest skincare on earth,” it might take your skin to new heights.

Starface Moisture On Mars Review

Starface’s Moisture On Mars cream soothes and nourishes dry and damaged skin while also maintaining the skin’s natural moisture barrier. It can also help prevent blemishes and create an even skin tone with continued use.

The ‘star’ ingredients of this moisturizer include sodium hyaluronate and tocopherol. Sodium hyaluronate is extracted from the hydrating powerhouse, hyaluronic acid. It attracts moisture into skin cells, while helping to reduce flakiness and dryness. It can also minimize the appearance of wrinkles.

We also have tocopherol in this blend, which is a type of Vitamin E. It’s fat-soluble and an effective antioxidant that reduces inflammation and promotes moisture. Overall, Moisture On Mars is a spot-preventing cream that leaves your skin hydrated, moisturized, and happy.

Moisture On Mars retails for $13.

Starface Space Wash Review

Cleansing is an essential step of any skincare routine. So, before slathering on a moisturizer, prep your skin with the Space Wash. This plant-based foam cleanser is a great day or night wash that gently removes dirt, oil, and makeup.

Starface also notes that their facial wash can slough off dead skin cells, unclog your pores, and help with oiliness without stripping your natural barrier. This is possible with ingredients like white willow bark and sage leaf

In Space Wash, white willow bark works to soothe and exfoliate, while sage leaf heals your skin by reducing irritation. As a bonus, it doesn’t contain any sulfates, parabens, or fragrance, making it safe for people with sensitive skin.

This facial wash can be yours for $12

Starface Exfoliating Night Water Review

The last skincare product in this Starface review is the Exfoliating Night Water. As the name suggests, this is an oil-free product exfoliator that reveals an even texture and radiant complexion. It does this using alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs), and polyhydroxy acids (PHAs).

AHAs are organic acids that include skincare hard-hitters like glycolic and lactic acid. Evidently, these exfoliants reduce signs of aging by exfoliating the superficial layer of skin. Starface also uses salicylic acid, which is a BHA. It’s especially beneficial for acne-prone skin. In the Exfoliating Night Water, it regulates excess sebum.

Lastly, we have the PHA gluconolactone. We know, it’s a bit of a mouthful, but it’s the most gentle exfoliant of the bunch. It can be used for multiple sensitive skin conditions like rosacea and atopic dermatitis. In this product, it assists in delivering hydration as well.

Add the Exfoliating Night Water to your skincare routine for $12.

Starface Hydro Stars Review

Now, onto the real showstoppers: Starface Hydro Stars. These charming stickers absorb fluid and shield your blemishes from bacteria. They also stop you from picking and leaving any unsightly scars.

Starface Hydro-Stars Review

Hydro Stars are the brand’s best-selling pimple protector. It accelerates skin healing using hydrocolloid, which can absorb fluid in blemishes and shrink signs of irritation. As we mentioned, the star shape grabs onto your face and completely covers your spot as it speeds up the healing process.

The star patches are packaged in a refillable Big Yellow compact with an included mirror. This tiny companion even comes with a happy face on it, reminding you to stay positive during your acne journey. Plus, it’s just really adorable.

This Starface review recommends applying your star on a freshly cleansed face. You can add the Hydro Stars to your cart for $15

Starface Hydro-Stars Party Pack Review

The Hydro Stars Party Pack amps up the fun factor with four new colorways, including aqua, lime, azalea, and violet. As we described earlier, the product uses hydrocolloids to make your blemishes a distant memory.

The Hydro Stars also prevent you from picking and popping your pimples. This will minimize potential scarring. Plus, your Instagram selfies will look pretty cool with the bright patches (there’s nothing stopping you from treating them like an accessory). Being ashamed of your pimples is out of the question.

These 32-pack Starface pimple patches will run you about $12

Starface Rainbow Hydro-Stars Review

Finally, this Starface review has landed on the Rainbow Hydro Stars. The profits from these colorful pimple patches go straight towards organizations such as the Black Led Movement Fund and an institute for LGTBQ+ youth. The product emphasizes a commitment to uplifting Black lives and the queer community.

Of course, they offer the same benefits as the rest of their patches. They’ll cover and heal your most stubborn blemishes while also acting as a cute facial decoration. You could even coordinate your outfits to match the multi-colored stickers and add some fun to your skincare routine.

The Rainbows Hydro Stars cost $12 to add to your cart.

Who Is Starface For?

Starface Review

Starface’s marketing is aimed at acne-prone people. Their products are effective for anyone who frequently struggles with pimples, so there isn’t an age or gender limit. Additionally, their website and overall aesthetic appeals to Gen-Z and younger Millennials.

The brand is currently collaborating with Sesame Street and even previously dropped Hello Kitty pimple patches. So, it’s clear that their marketing is geared towards a younger teen and young adult audience.

Plus, their prices are reasonable, so it won’t be too hard to purchase some products if you’re balling on a budget. They’re also cruelty-free and vegan, so that’s a bonus for green shoppers.

How Is Starface Different From Other Beauty Brands?

Starface Review

Starface’s primary goal is to change the conversations surrounding acne. Instead of the usual disdain people typically express towards pimples, Starface aims to associate blemishes with happiness and optimism (see their Big Yellow compacts!). They also aim to make skincare a fun and simple process. In other words, they embrace what other brands might try to hide.

Additionally, the star-shaped patches promote skin neutrality. It’s okay to hate or love your skin on some days, but getting caught up and attaching it to your self-worth can be damaging. So, Starface’s pimple patches aim to make you feel okay about your blemishes while simultaneously healing them.

Starface Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Starface Review

By now, you’re probably wondering what customers think of the skincare brand. Well, we scoured the internet for Starface reviews and hit the jackpot. Testimonials were spread out over the company’s website, Influenster, and Trustpilot.

There are more critical comments about Starface online, but we can talk about those later. Here are the average main site ratings for the products in this review:

  • Moisture on Mars: 4.6/5 stars from 113 reviews
  • Space Wash: 4.6/5 stars from 189 reviews
  • Exfoliating Night Wash: 4/5 stars from 105 reviews
  • Hydro Stars: 4.4/5 stars from 1.85k reviews
  • Hydro Stars Party Pack: 4.6/5 stars from 200 reviews
  • Rainbow Hydro stars: 4.4/5 stars from 578 reviews

The Moisture on Mars cream receives a positive response. One customer writes, “Honestly, the best daily moisturizer I’ve ever tried. I have sensitive, acne-prone skin, so I have to be careful about ingredients. But, this is so gentle and never leaves me feeling greasy.”

Another reviewer says, “Simple, effective, and so darn cute! It has a thicker texture than usual moisturizers I’d traditionally use (oily skin), but this gives my skin the hydration and moisture it needs, without leaving my skin feeling bogged down, congested, or clogging my pores […] I’m in love!”

Starface’s Space Wash also gets some high praise. A customer writes, “I’ve been using this for, I think, two weeks now. I’ve had blackheads on my nose for about 4 years, and nothing would work for them. So, when I used this, I thought it was going to be a waste of money, but it actually works. Half of them are gone! I’m happy I bought this. It’s amazing!”

Beauty junkies on Influenster also enjoyed the product, which rates 4.1/5 stars. One reviewer writes, “Gives you that clean feeling. Removed most makeup and didn’t make my skin feel tight. I could see it being too astringent on sensitive or dry skin types with the essential oils, but the price is great. Repurchased.”

Of course, we can’t go on without mentioning the Hydro Stars reviews. A customer writes, “The packaging was absolutely amazing, and the products seriously work well. I use my star patches every time a pimple pops up, and when I wake up, it’s gone. There’s no scarring or irritation or anything, and my skin is quite sensitive.”

Another happy reviewer says, “I get really sore, large spots around my period. These stars not only settle the spots, but they also stop me from picking them. Also, when they have a head, the stars draw out the yuck, which is better than squeezing them!”

So, it’s pretty evident that people love the brand. This Starface review only found a few criticisms while conducting our research.

On external sites like Trustpilot, the brand scored an average of 2.9/5 stars from 8 reviews. These reviewers cite problems with customer service and extended shipping times.

Ultimately, no skincare brand can be a one-size-fits-all solution. So, there are chances of products not producing the best results for everyone. And luckily, the customer service complaints are far and few between when contrasted with all the praise.

My Review of Starface

Hi, I’m Paige and I’m a product tester at Honest Brand Reviews.

Starface Review 1
Paige, Product Tester

Starface has such trustworthy products. Their body wash eliminated and prevented breakouts that I sometimes get on my back and shoulders.

I think it’s a definite must-have for every season, and while I’ll treasure it as part of my weekly routine, I think their pimple patches are always worth having on hand too.

Starface Review

Always a godsend, these cute little stickers work their magic overnight, but if you happen to have a pimple pop up midday, they’re a totally acceptable form of face art for festival season.

Is Starface Worth It?

Starface Review

The shame associated with acne can sometimes be debilitating. So, people might suffocate blemishes with makeup, or they might pop them and leave a scar. Starface makes an effort to change that narrative by providing a safer and healthier way to heal your most stubborn spots.

Based on this Starface review, we believe the brand is worth checking out. Their pimple patches seem effective in the healing process—and they’re charming! Plus, the skincare collection is cruelty free and vegan

Some criticisms may surround the brand’s customer service, but, as we said, they’re rare. In addition, skincare brands will also receive critical reviews if customers don’t get their desired results. That’s to be expected, though, as beauty products won’t work for everyone.
