About Daily Harvest

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Daily Harvest delivers Smoothies, Harvest Bowls, and all kinds of healthy options built on fruits and vegetables and delivered right to your door. Everything is ready in minutes and always plant-based, gluten-free, and dairy-free.

A lot of us struggle to get enough fruits and veggies in our diet. In fact, in 2015, the CDC[1] found that only 1 in 10 adults eat enough of it, which is an issue because a lack of fruit and veggies has been associated with the development of chronic illness, specifically heart disease[2].

If you wish you were one of that 10% of people who meet their fruit and veggie intake, but you’re not a fan of eating them raw, smoothies can be a super fun solution! This is where Daily Harvest can help.

Daily Harvest is a popular food-delivery company with an impressive Instagram following of 573K! They will stock your freezer with convenient and healthy options made from organic whole fruits and vegetables.

This Daily Harvest review will take a look at the brand’s many options and plans, delivery policies, FAQs, price breakdowns, and more, to help you decide whether it’s worth signing up for.

Overview of Daily Harvest

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Rachel Drori realized that full meals were hard for her to keep up with and found herself regularly snacking on whatever was around because she didn’t have time to make healthy meals herself.

In the early days, this brand only delivered pre-packaged and frozen smoothies, but it now carries over 90 options across 11 collections for any craving or time of day. Their collections include Smoothies, Harvest Bowls, Flatbreads, Bites, Scoops (their plant-based ice cream), and even Mylk.. No more going without nutrition because of no time!

The brand also takes a regenerative approach; only using sustainable practices to reduce food waste, use organic farming practices and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, and only implementing recyclable packaging. They are in the process of transitioning all of their packaging to 100% compostable as well!

In addition, Daily Harvest never uses gums, preservatives, harmful oils, fillers, refined sugars, stabilizers, or artificial ingredients. With over 90 plant-based items on the menu, there are a lot of choices for everyone.

If you’re hesitant about eating plant-based, consider the benefits. One study[3] found that a plant-based diet improved body weight, fat mass, and insulin resistance markers in people who were overweight.

Before we begin our Daily Harvest review, let’s view the highlights of the brand.

How Does Daily Harvest Work?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Once you sign up for a Daily Harvest plan you can pick the size of your first box. You can get 9 to 26 items delivered weekly or monthly. You can choose various items from the selection, and you can change this option weekly.

Members can also cancel or alter their plans 8 weeks in advance and pause their program at any time. In the following section, this Daily Harvest review will focus on the brand’s Small, Medium, and Large boxes.

Daily Harvest Small Box Review

The small subscription comes with just 9 products. Many meal plans have a flat rate for delivery and products. But not Daily Harvest smoothie delivery.

Instead, customers pay per item. The more you choose, the more discounts you will receive. Daily Harvest prices range from $6 to $9, so your total can vary depending on selected items. On average, a Small Box costs around $75

The menu includes Daily Harvest bowls, smoothies, Mylk products, flatbreads, soups, forager bowls, oat bowls, chia bowls (ice cream), Scoops, Bites, and lattes.

When you select the items, you will see a product preview, instructions, price, ingredients, customer ratings, nutritional facts, and site reviews.

Let’s take a closer look at a few of their best-selling items. Daily Harvest smoothies, for example, typically cost around $8.

For example, the Strawberry + Peach smoothie is one of the customer favorites. Made with organic strawberry, banana, peach, raspberry, oats, and goji berry, this pick me up is full of superfoods for on the go. Goji berry[4] is full of antioxidant properties, meaning they can protect your body’s cells from damage. Similarly, oats[5] are a prebiotic and a fiber that reduces heart disease. Each serving contains no added sugars or protein and is 140 calories. You only need your blender.

Daily Harvest Mylk is a unique product. For $8, you can make around half a gallon of almond or almond and vanilla flavored milk. These arrive as wedges of tightly packed nuts, pink sea salt, and vanilla bean (in the case of the second option) that you blend with water.

Plant-based milks have exploded in popularity over the past few decades, and for a good reason. About 65% of the world’s population develops some form of lactose intolerance as they grow up, leading to unpleasant symptoms like excess gas, bloating, and stomach pain. Additionally, the production of plant-based milks tends to be more environmentally friendly.

Since they arrive as solids, Mylk can last longer than liquid almond milk. Daily Harvest also promises that this plant-based product is free of gums, fillers, or stabilizers.

Daily Harvest Medium Box Review

Daily Harvest’s Medium Box comes with 14-23 items. But don’t worry, you get access to the same options as every other plan. With the additional $10 in savings, you can look to spend about $110.

Let’s look at another popular Daily Harvest menu offering: Harvest Bowls at $9 per item. The Spinach + Shiitake Grits is a favorite of many customers.

The ingredients are entirely customizable to accommodate people with allergies, and each product does come with a list of all ingredients to be safe for different types of diets.

For instance, the Spinach + Shiitake Grits contain cashews. Other ingredients include organic millet, spinach, cauliflower, shiitake, and basil. Leafy green vegetables, like spinach, have protective effects against cardiovascular disease[6]. Meanwhile, dried shiitake[7] is rich in fiber and iron, which are necessary for good health overall.

This healthy meal also includes seasonings like virgin olive oil, Himalayan sea salt, cashew butter, white pepper, garlic, and black pepper. If you’re hesitant about oil in your meal, you should know that olive oil has many health benefits! Olive oil is a source of polyphenols[8] that provide many health benefits like antioxidants and anti-inflammatory effects.

One serving of this meal gives protein, fiber, and 200 calories.

Another $9 item is the Kale + Sweet Potato Flatbread. This meal is full of nutrients and leaves you feeling pleasantly full with organic sweet potato, cauliflower, kale, red cabbage, spinach, and coriander. Sweet potato[9], in particular, is super rich in nutrients and antioxidants[10], protecting your cells.

With 370 calories for 230 grams of flatbread, the Kale + Sweet Potato Flatbread comes with a little more preparation since it needs baking.

Daily Harvest’s oat bowls are well-liked and less expensive at $6 per item. One best-selling product is the Apple + Cinnamon which comes with organic cauliflower, apple, pumpkin seed, oats, walnut, and cinnamon.

Hesitant about having a vegetable like cauliflower in your oat bowl? Rest assured, it tastes great, as proven by its best-seller title. This is a filling product, and for only 310 calories per serving!

Daily Harvest Large Plan Review

Finally, we have the Large Box Plan. It is the best value for subscribers as it saves them an extra $20. Unless you have many mouths to feed, setting up a monthly Daily Harvest food delivery makes the most sense for this plan.

24 items might be too many and too costly for one week, but you can easily choose to receive the same number each month for around $180. Like the other plans, Daily Harvest provides a wide range of products for you to choose from, including meals and snacks.

The brand has a treat that will make you melt: gluten-free and dairy-free ice cream! At $9 per pint, the Daily Harvest cost for Scoops is more expensive than a local cone, but they use healthy ingredients like organic coconut.

One best-selling Scoop is the Chocolate + Ooey, Gooey, Midnight Fudge. Tasting like sea salted chocolate ganache, the mix of organic coconut, maple, cacao, avocado, pine pollen, and vanilla makes for a sweet yet healthy dessert. For each serving of 135 grams, there are 260 calories—less than your average ice cream!

Another popular dessert is Daily Harvest’s Bites. 7 servings cost $8, the same price as a smoothie.

The Hazelnut + Chocolate Bite is a definite fan favorite, made with organic avocado but with the flavor of hazelnut, dark chocolate, organic cacao, chia, vanilla bean, and reishi. This dish has a lot of nutrition in a mere 100 calories

But, the cheapest Daily Harvest menu items are their famous lattes. For $6, you get 2 single-serving pods for a delicious morning pick me up.

The best-selling Chaga + Chocolate pod contains organic coconut, cacao, Chaga, organic reishi, vanilla bean, and the cherry on top is the natural sweetener, maple extract. Chaga[11] is a powerful medicinal mushroom shown to have anti-cancer properties.

With only 100 calories per pod, there are a few more calories than the usual latte. You can also make it without a coffee machine, depending on your preference.

You can make these Daily Harvest lattes by running hot water over the sealed pod and then unpeeling and heating it in milk (either in a pot or in the microwave). Then, simply stir to enjoy.

How Much Is Daily Harvest?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

While there are items at $6, most of the more filling foods are around the price point of $9. Before tax is applied, your orders can fall into the following ranges:

  • Small Plan: $54$81
  • Medium Plan:  $74$116
  • Large Plan:  $144$196

The different plans also all have different savings and promotions—so it all relies on how you want to incorporate Daily Harvest into your life!

What Is Daily Harvest?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Daily Harvest is a plant-based meal delivery service that incorporates healthy options into your daily meal plan. You have the opportunity to select the meals and smoothies that fit your preference for affordable prices.

Users of Daily Harvest meals and snacks say that these meals are easy to prepare. All of the meals arrive frozen and in singular cups for easy preparation and freshness every time.

Can You Lose Weight On Daily Harvest?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Daily Harvest’s smoothies, meals, and snacks are designed to help you get the nutrition you need, with most of the products having less than 400 calories. Since the ingredients are plant-based, you benefit from daily meals without too many calories.

Note that Daily Harvest’s options have low amounts of protein, so the ‘fullness’ factor is less apparent. So you may need to incorporate other foods into your diet if you are looking for that full feeling.

So, is Daily Harvest actually healthy? Absolutely! But sustainable weight loss is all about balance and planning—including a nutritious diet, exercise, and restful sleep.

Daily Harvest Reviews: What Do Customers Think?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

This Daily Harvest review wanted to learn more about what subscribers thought of the food delivery service. Ahead, you’ll find feedback sourced from the brand’s official website, Trustpilot, and news outlets such as HuffPost and Real Simple.

The brand’s website generally hosts positive customer reviews for its various menu options. One Daily Harvest review for their Strawberry + Peach flavor (rated 4.6/5 stars) reads:

“It was nice. The flavor was more delicate and subtle when I used water. I tasted the strawberry the most. I might use plant-based milk next time for a more milkshake experience. The color was pretty too.”

Speaking of plant-based milk, their Almond Mylk received 4.7/5 stars (from an unspecified number of reviewers).

One buyer shared, “I still can’t believe this Mylk is so clean and delicious. I love that it’s only 2 ingredients and how easy it is to make. I won’t be drinking any other milks tbh.” The main complaint that users had about these wedges was around the tricky packaging.

With some of Daily Harvest’s plant-based products, the taste and texture can take some getting used to. For example, customers were not as satisfied with the Mint + Dark, Melty Cacao Chips Scoop, giving it 3.7/5 stars

Positive reviews are usually about the healthy ingredients used by Daily Harvest. A critic from HuffPost wrote:

I felt like Daily Harvest was the perfect middle spot between cooking a healthy dinner from scratch and the convenience of frozen food…I usually don’t think about how many fruits and veggies I’m consuming on a daily basis, but with Daily Harvest, I knew that I was eating lots of them.”

A writer at Real Simple agreed, “What I found with my Daily Harvest supply was that I dramatically increased the amount of produce and plants I was eating because their foods are all plant-forward.”

Daily Harvest scored high on Trustpilot, another critical third-party review site. From 1,035 ratings, the brand received an average of 3.6/5 stars. There are few complaints about food taste, but most customers complimented the items.

There are repeated criticisms about packaging quality (either missing dry ice or spillages). Fortunately, subscribers receive food credit and refunds in these scenarios.

This Daily Harvest review noticed that some customers struggled with canceling their subscriptions, so we will provide a detailed outline for readers in our FAQs section below.

Is Daily Harvest Worth It?

Daily Harvest Smoothies Review

Ultimately, this Daily Harvest review finds: yes, the service is worth it. With small portions, snackable options, convenient packaging, and healthy add-ons, it is generally ideal for those who are always on the go.

Overall, the company has responsible practices (as long as you submit changes before the cutoff on Sundays at 6 PM ET). Their ingredients are flavorsome, and their smoothies are special and refreshing

Daily Harvest is one of the more expensive meal delivery subscriptions. Purchasing it every week can be a burden, but that is why we recommend the brand’s monthly plan for smaller households.

In the end, this Daily Harvest review believes that if you are looking to try more plant-based recipes but you don’t have the time to shop and cook for yourself, this delivery company is a great starting point.
